What we print, and what we don’t
Engineering parts, not decoration. Functional prototypes you can test and fit, jigs and fixtures for a production line, replacement components for equipment nobody supports any more, housings and enclosures, parts rebuilt from a physical sample when no drawing exists, and short production runs where tooling cannot be justified.
What we send elsewhere: retail props, window display pieces and sculptural work for shop fit-outs. That is SignWorks, in the same group. If the part is going into a store rather than into a machine, start there and you will reach the right team faster.
FDM or SLA: how the choice gets made
FDM is the workhorse. It handles scale and structure, and it is what you want when a part has to be strong and dimensionally sound rather than flawless to look at: larger geometry, tougher materials, lower cost per part.
SLA is for parts that will be looked at closely or assembled tightly, where fine detail, smooth surfaces and tight features matter and FDM’s layer lines would spoil them.
Most parts declare themselves once we see the file. When they do not, the question that settles it is usually whether the part is going to be measured or seen.

How a quote is built
There is no rate card for this work, because the same part in two materials on two machines is two different jobs. Five things set your number: the process the part needs, the material, how much of that material the part uses, how long it occupies a machine, and what has to happen to it after it comes off the bed.
Geometry drives all five. A part that needs support structures everywhere costs more to print and considerably more to finish than one designed to stand on its own.

What to send us
A STEP or IGES file is ideal, because it keeps the geometry exact. STL works and is what most people have. If there is no file at all, send photographs with dimensions, or send us the part itself and we will scan it and rebuild the model from the scan.
What makes a quote quick: telling us the material or the job the part has to do, how many you need, and when you need them. What slows it down is a file with no units, or a reference image with no part behind it.
Finishing
A part off the bed is rarely a finished part. Filling, sanding, priming and paint and finishing are part of the service rather than something you arrange afterwards, and on most engineering work it is the step that decides whether the part reads as a prototype or as the real thing.
Common questions
Can you work from a physical part instead of a file?
Yes. That is reverse engineering: we scan the part, rebuild the model from the scan, and print or machine from there. It is routine for obsolete components with no surviving drawings.
Is 3DWorks the same company as SignWorks?
Same group, different work. 3DWorks handles engineering additive manufacturing. SignWorks handles retail fabrication, visual merchandising and shopfitting. The two share a workshop floor, so a job needing both does not have to be split across two suppliers.
