Designing for the process the part will be made by

A model that is correct in CAD can still be a bad part, because every manufacturing process has rules the geometry has to respect. Designing without them is how a file passes review and then fails on the machine.

For printed parts that means watching wall thickness, which has to carry load and survive handling rather than simply exist; overhangs, since anything leaning much past 45 degrees from vertical needs support material that has to be cut away afterwards, usually from the surface you cared about; and bridging distances, which are limited by what the material will span before it sags.

Orientation is a strength decision, not just a cost one

This is the one that catches people who are new to additive. A printed part is not equally strong in every direction. It is built in layers, and the bond between layers is weaker than the material within a layer, so a part loaded across its layer lines will fail long before the same part printed in a different orientation.

That makes build orientation a design input. It decides where the part is strong, which surfaces come out smooth, where supports touch, and how long it takes to print. Tell us how the part will be loaded in use and the orientation follows from that rather than from whatever fits the bed most conveniently.

Clearances and fit

Two features that measure the same in CAD will not necessarily go together once made. Printed parts need deliberate clearance designed in between mating features — a shaft and its hole modelled to identical dimensions will bind. How much clearance depends on the process and the material, which is why the process should be settled before the fits are finalised rather than after.

What we hand over

A parametric CAD model, so the design can be changed later by editing features rather than rebuilt from scratch, plus manufacturing files in the format the process needs — STEP or IGES for machining, STL or 3MF for printing. If the design starts from a physical sample rather than a sketch, that begins with scanning and a rebuild. From an approved model the part can go straight to prototyping or production.
